LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has made wearing face masks mandatory in 10 districts of the province affected by smog.
According to a notification, face masks are required in 10 districts of Lahore and Gujranwala division due to deteriorating air quality.
The decision is applicable to residents of Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin, the most-affected districts by smog.
The health secretary's notification says that smog poses a serious threat to public health in all age groups, necessitating safety measures for the prevention and control of airborne diseases.
The Punjab capital, Lahore, consistently ranks as one of the most polluted cities globally, prompting the government to make mask-wearing mandatory for a week across the province.
