Consumers are in no mood to abstain from soft drinks despite knowing their hazards. Have its health risks now just remained a news commodity?


Recently, the market value of the top-notch beverage company fell $4 billion. This is because a famous footballer Christiano Ronaldo showed a simple gesture of refraining that beverage and opting for water. Apparently, there was nothing wrong with that gesture. Consequently, its impact showed that how much these soft drinks have influenced our lives.

What makes soft drinks unique?

According to a study, the market size of carbonated beverages was USD 406.89 billion in 2019 globally. It is expecting that rise of a whopping level would occur in the next five years. So, what makes these drinks unique, having so much at stake for the human body? The reason is prevailing social norm and attitude alongside climatic changes, which triggers more consumption.

Soft drinks: a cheap, fancy option

People consider parties or gatherings useless if there are no servings of fizzy drinks, irrespective of different brands. People mostly prefer to consume after having snacks and dinner, many times more than a glass. Secondly, the soft drink is relatively affordable due to inadequate alternatives and costly fresh fruit juices.

Saving water and money in summers!

Secondly, due to the long summers and blistering heat in the subcontinent, soft drink intake rises to an extreme level as people take it as a viable option to mitigate their thirst. On the other hand, water might be not that cold due to the authorities’ power outages and indifferent conduct. So, they seek fizzy drinks as a more viable option when they eventually decide to spend money to quench their thirst.

A trap of big companies

Therefore, the existing social attitude, norms, and environmental constraints have bound a typical person to fall into the trap despite knowing the proven side effects of soft drinks. The trap laid by giant firms endorsed by the different actors, sportsmen who influence our respective lives.

Some measures to avoid these drinks

If we find ways to introduce healthy drinks at the cheapest rates, we can mitigate the dangers of soft drinks. Meanwhile, an effective campaign against the consumption of soft drinks led by competitive taste building measures can compel people to quit soft drinks. But, it is not that easy as these drinks have penetrated so much in our lives.
