Brushing your teeth is crucial to maintaining good dental health. However, brushing alone is not enough. Good dental care requires proper brushing, which means using correct and safe movements to clean the teeth without causing any trauma to the oral mucosa. Don't be surprised if you get cavities despite brushing twice a day. It simply means you are not doing it right!

Proper tooth brushing is the most crucial step in maintaining good oral hygiene. Learn and re-learn; you can practice brushing techniques to make sure you brush your teeth the correct way.

Here are a few ways which can help you develop good brushing habits.

Holding The Brush Correctly

You might have learned it in childhood, but holding the toothbrush parallel to your teeth is wrong. It doesn't clean out the food stuck in your gingiva, creating problems. The key is to hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to cover both the gums and teeth

Apply Circular Motions

Aggressive horizontal or vertical brushing doesn't do any good to the teeth. Using soft circular motions can clean the tooth surface without causing trauma to the gums. The circular motions also help the brush reach every tooth corner, enhancing plaque removal.

Choosing The Toothbrush

Good brushing techniques starts with choosing the right toothbrush. Opt for a brush with multilevel bristles as they help remove the plaque in between teeth and hard to reach surfaces. For comfort, make sure your toothbrush is made of soft bristles and is the right size for your mouth. Also, make it a habit to replace your toothbrush every three to four months.

Put In The Time

Teeth brushing is a part of self-care, and optimum time must be given to ensure proper cleaning. Rushing the process will. Dentists recommend two to three minutes sessions, spending at least thirty seconds in each quadrant.

Don't Forget The Tongue

Many people forget to brush their tongues when they brush their teeth. The tongue serves as a petri dish for all kinds of bacteria, which can cause many problems other than bad breath. Invest in a brush with a tooth scraper at the back, and don't forget to scrape the tongue.

Don't Rinse; Spit

Did you know that you are not supposed to rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth? Yes, you read that right. It is recommended to spit the toothpaste from your mouth rather than rinsing it out with water. The fluoride from the leftover toothpaste can work for a longer time and can help strengthen the teeth, further preventing caries.

These brushing techniques can make the process easier for you, but they can also help you get the dentition of your dreams.
