ISLAMABAD: Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has ordered the medical practitioners only to write the generic name of the medicines and keep themselves away from writing brand names in prescriptions.

DRAP has issued a letter that stated that doctors would no longer prescribe the brand name of the drug but would only prescribe the generic name of the drug.

It further stated that medical store owners would not be authorised to give medicine without a prescription and a pharmacist. Moreover, the sale of drugs should not be allowed anywhere without a prescription, while the prescription should be given only by a registered doctor.
The availability of a graduate pharmacist at every medical store was required for dispensing the medicines, DRAP stated in the letter.

Pharma Legal Adviser Noor Mehr said that from January 2022, mass demonstrations would be organised across the country if the implementation was delayed.
