QUETTA: The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) recently approved the registration of three new medical colleges of Balochistan, which had been operating without registration since 2018.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and National Party, the previous provincial governments, installed The Jhalawan Medical College, Loralai Medical College, and Makran Medical College.
The PMC had not approved their registration during the past four years because they didn't complete the required formalities. Over 600 students were studying in these three medical colleges.
Official sources said that after completion of required formalities and provision of the required equipment to these colleges and their teaching hospitals, PMC officials visited them and recommended their registration.
According to Balochistan's health department officials, the council of PMC has approved the registration of all the three medical colleges of Balochistan. They further said the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and the Pakistan Army played a positive role in approving the registration of these institutions.
With this registration, students of far-flung areas of Balochistan would be able to obtain higher medical education, which would help overcome the shortage of doctors in the province, they said.
