Karachi: The monsoon season of 2022 has had devastating effects on the country’s infrastructure and agriculture. Not to mention, the destruction it has caused in the entire country, particularly Interior Sindh, is unimaginable. 33 million people were hit by this disaster, with more than 900 losing their lives and hundreds of thousands of houses destroyed. These people have been made homeless in a matter of days, losing all their belongings and livelihood. 300,000 people are starving and in dire need of food and medical assistance.
Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) has always been at the forefront to help the community, and this unfortunate incident is no different. FJDC has taken on an initiative with the sole aim of assisting the flood affectees by providing food, medicines, tents and various other necessitates required for daily life.
FJDC began this campaign by making use of its various social media platforms to spread awareness among the community, which resulted in a very positive response from the faculty, students, staff, etc, in just a matter of days.
FJDC’s students held a bake sale and a movie screening event, which was a success as the college was able to collect substantial funds of Rs 70,000.
Apart from these fundraising activities, the college also managed to accumulate a large number of resources, monetary and in-kind donations, for the flood relief fund.
A program was held by the students, which was devoted solely to FJDC’s FMD. It consisted of presentations and speeches by the students in which they talked about devising educational policies that could be adopted for the flood affectees so that anyone who wanted to continue their education may do so. The event concluded with Dr Baqar Askary, Chairman-FJDC, urging everyone to become a part of the FMD. Overall, the audience was very receptive to the program, and it instilled in them a motivation to help however they could. The college invited NEO TV as a means to spread awareness and as an attempt to motivate other institutions to carry out similar initiatives. A week after, FJDC started the distribution of food and medicines to the flood victims.
We pledge to keep this activity ongoing and urge every organization to become a part of this mission and contribute however they can.
