KARACHI: In a move aimed at ensuring financial transparency, Sindh Health Department has temporarily ceased funding for private healthcare institutions, making it mandatory for these establishments to submit their annual audit reports for the disbursement of further grants.

Caretaker provincial health minister has said that all private institutions, including prominent entities such as the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) and Indus Hospital, are required to furnish comprehensive audit reports to be considered for future grants.

Notably, in 2022, the Sindh health department allocated a substantial sum of 87 billion for the support of these private institutions, yet a significant lack of clarity persists regarding the utilisation of these funds.

Underlining the paramount importance of financial transparency, the health minister stressed the immediate need for audit reports upon assuming the position, and despite granting an extension to the concerned institutions, the decision has been made to withhold any additional financial support until the audit reports are duly submitted and scrutinised.
