KARACHI: The Ziauddin College of Dentistry’s oral biology department recently held its first-ever Tooth Carving Competition, participated by first-year dental students, demonstrating their skills in dental anatomy and carving precision.

Led by Dr. Fizza Saher, Head of the Department, the competition aimed to enhance students’ understanding of tooth morphology while developing their manual skills — an essential competency in dentistry.

The participating students were mentored by Dr. Hira Batool, Dr. Khushbu Lohana, and Dr. Naseer Khan, who provided guidance in honing their techniques.

The panel of judges included Dr. Rizwanullah, Assistant Professor and Head of Oral Biology at the Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences, JSMU, and Dr. Raima Bashir, Assistant Professor at Bahria Medical and Dental University. They assessed the participants based on anatomical accuracy, proportion, and overall craftsmanship, praising the artistry and detail in the carvings.

The competition provided an opportunity for students to translate classroom knowledge into practical application, requiring them to carve detailed replicas of various teeth with a focus on anatomical accuracy. This hands-on experience tested not only their theoretical understanding but also their practical skills.

Commending the participants, Prof. Dr. Wahab Buksh Kadri, Principal of Ziauddin College of Dentistry, praised their dedication and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. Prizes were awarded to the top three performers, alongside certificates and shields for judges and mentors.

The event reflected Ziauddin College of Dentistry's commitment to innovative and engaging educational experiences for its students.
