KARACHI – Speakers at an International Implant Surgicon’16 held here on Sunday hosted by Aleena Naeem, a proud Baqaiite. Principal of Baqai Dental College, Prof. Dr. Kashif Ikram, officially opened the ceremony. He welcomed all guest speakers and the delegates whole heartedly and showed utmost gratitude for their presence. He explained his ideology behind the reasons why he initiated the idea of the conference with the theme "SAVE THE BONE" Being a successful surgical Implantologist himself, he emphasised on the importance of a sound bone. The bone is the basic framework, if the bone is not protected, normal anatomy cannot be upheld. ;The beauty of placing an implant is to preserve the bone and promote natural healing for better prognosis. Healthy bone makes for a better smile a better outlook and above all better health itself. Before concluding his address he also adviced everyone to take proper precautions regarding the ongoing heat wave being well dehydrated making the right eating choices and avoiding sun exposure as much as possible. The crux of the speaker's view was success or failure of implants depends on the health of the person receiving it, drugs which impact the chances of osseointegration and the health of tissues in the mouth. “Planning the position and number of implants is the key to the long-term health of prosthesis since biochemical forces created during chewing can be significant,” they added. The International Implant Surgicon’16 held on the theme of “Save the Bone” was jointly organized by Baqai Dental College and Academy of Orofacial Aesthetics at a local hotel and it was attended by over 300 delegates from across the country. The seminar carried six (06) CDE hours. The formal launching ceremony of AOA Academy was also done with much fanfare at the occasion. Those who spoke on the occasion included prominent Implantologist from Glasgow, UK, Dr Abid Faqir; Periodontist/ Implantologist from Germany, Dr Puria Parvini; Periodontist/Implantologist Dr Khurram Ataullah, Implantologist Dr Bilal Shaikh, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr Adnan Aslam and Oral & Maxillofacial Suergeon Dr Mansoor Ahmed. Speakers were of the view that the primary use of dental implants is to support dental prosthetics. Modern dental implants make use of osseointegration, the biologic process where bone fuses tightly to the surface of specific materials such as titanium and some ceramics. A poster competition (Case Report) and lucky draw were also held during the Singing Idol competition, entertaining all who were present.
