COVID-19 can have effects on Human Psyche: Dr Farhan Raza Khan

Karachi: It is important to have healthy mindset to counter this pandemic disease. It is the sole responsibility of every individual to spend time efficiently in order to reduce stress and anxiety in this COVID-19 lockdown.

Referring to the setback faced due to COVID-19 lockdown, Dr Farhan Raza Khan, Associate Professor, Section of Dental Surgery, Department of Surgery, Agha Khan University expressed his views on how a person can organize himself and his daily routine in order to have a quality life and mindset.

He was speaking at live session organized by Dental News Pakistan. The moderator for the event was Dr Muattar Hanif.

He discussed the effects of quarantine or self-isolation on human psyche. He focused on the social and mental impacts on individuals. Dr Farhan urged that many dentists have closed their private practices are at home. This sudden confinement, with no social interaction can further escalate social and financial issues. This will ultimately lead to more stress. He urged people to invest their time in those activities that will create positive impact.

While sharing many tips, Dr Farhan highlighted that person should first do self-actualization, that what personality traits he have and what hobbies or work he likes to do. This will help him or her in self-development. He told that such time can become the best opportunity to go for your unachieved goals and hobbies, improve relationship with your family and others.

He said that intellectual, physical, mental and social growth is highly important which can be done by reading, writing, learning or teaching new skills. Dentists can learn clinical or basic science books or can even opt for books on topics of spirituality, literature or poetry. He even said that just to for the sake being busy, one can even try cooking or help family in house chores.

Dr Farhan stressed that dentists must work for the betterment of the patients and colleague. It is highly important to improve their cognitive capabilities, communicational skills and soft skills in order to be a good doctor.

In the end, he advised listeners to become empathic towards each other needs. He said a person should focus on his goals and work hard on them to be successful rather than just making excuses for his/her failures.

He also thanked the organizers for arranging such great initiative.
