RAWALPINDI - The quarterly academic meeting of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery study group for twin cities was held on 12th February 2015 at Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, Rawalpindi, As well in conjunction with the 1st International OMS day announced by International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Faculty and staff from the Department of OMFS, MIHS presented topics covering major aspects of maxillofacial surgery, including dental implants, oral pathology, facial deformity and facial trauma.
With the recitation of Holy Quran by House officer Dr Zubia, the academic meeting got underway.
A brief introduction of the scientific program was followed by a presentation by Dr Saman Malik, Registrar, Department of OMFS on the utility of sinus lifts in augmentation of posterior maxilla. She showed cases of both lateral and crestal approaches to sinus lifts.
It was followed by a presentation by Assistant Professor Dr Zahid Qayyum on 'Pathology of submandibular and sublingual glands'. He shared clinical cases of non-neoplastic and neoplastic pathology of salivary glands. Assistant Professor Dr Usman ul Haq followed suit with his presentation on Distraction Osteogenesis thereby showing cases of unilateral and bilateral use of distraction osteogenesis to optimize aesthetics and function in patients with TMJ ankylosis.
The day’s last presentation by Dr Adnan Aslam, touched on the use of titanium mesh in orbital reconstruction. With OMS faculty from all institutions a total of 85 participants from the twin cities attended the event. Active discussion, widely appreciated by the audience, took place on all the topics presented.
Lastly, Prof. Yunus Jadoon, Principal MIHS presented souvenirs to the attending faculty.
