ISLAMABAD: The National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination officials say that at least 15 medical and dental colleges across the country have allegedly granted illegal admissions for the 2023-24 academic session while enrolling over 1,200 students, raising concerns about their academic future.
Despite warnings from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), these colleges proceeded with admissions, with some institutions partially approved by the previous Pakistan Medical Commission. Collectively, these colleges have charged more than one billion rupees in fees and other expenses.
The institutions involved in the scam include medical and dental colleges in Karachi, Sanghar, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is currently investigating 18 colleges for their involvement in these illegal admissions.
The named colleges are Azra Naheed Dental College (Lahore), Abbottabad International Medical College (Abbottabad), Baqai Medical College (Karachi), Dow Dental College (Karachi), Frontier Medical College (Abbottabad), Fazaia Ruth Pfao Medical College (Karachi), Khairpur Medical College (Khairpur), Muhammad Dental College (Mirpur Khas), Peshawar Medical College (Peshawar), Hamdard College of Medicine & Dentistry - Dental Section (Karachi), Shifa College of Dentistry (Islamabad), Suleman Roshan Medical College (Tando Adam, Sanghar), Swat Medical College (Swat), Watim Medical College (Rawalpindi), Niazi Dental College (Sargodha), Muhammad Medical College (Al Razi Medical College, Peshawar), and RLKU Medical College (Lahore).
