ISLAMABAD: The government has turned down a proposal to increase the prices of 262 medicines, citing a lack of a comprehensive review by the Ministry of Health on the matter.

The Economic Coordination Committee, presided over by Caretaker Federal Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, convened to deliberate on the issue. During the meeting, the committee rejected the proposal to raise the prices of medicines, which encompassed the 262 medications.

In a statement released by the ECC, it was highlighted that the Ministry of Health failed to furnish a comparative assessment regarding the potential increase in medication costs.

The ECC also granted approval for the supply of imported RLNG (Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas) to two urea fertilizer factories and instructed the TCP (Trading Corporation of Pakistan) to outline the official import procedure for two hundred thousand tonnes of urea.

Furthermore, the declaration stated that the loan limit for Punjab has been raised to 540 billion, while Sindh's limit has been increased to 214 billion.
