DUBAI: Dubai has taken a major step towards inclusivity with the launch of the UAE’s first autism-friendly dental clinic. Established by the Dubai Autism Center (DAC) in collaboration with Curaden, this groundbreaking facility is designed to meet the unique oral health needs of individuals with autism. Located within the DAC premises, the clinic combines advanced dental technology with a sensory-sensitive environment to provide a stress-free experience for patients.
Speaking at the launch, Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of DAC, emphasized the center's dedication to supporting individuals of determination:
“This clinic aligns with our mission to make Dubai a truly inclusive city. It’s a milestone in ensuring access to essential services for everyone in our community.”
Tailored services for Autism spectrum needs
With dimmed lighting, noise-canceling headphones, and a calming color scheme, the clinic ensures a soothing experience for patients. It offers a range of services, including routine check-ups, dental cleanings, and cavity treatments. The clinic staff, trained at DAC, use empathetic communication techniques to create a comfortable atmosphere, addressing sensory sensitivities with patience and care.
Joyce Chamoun, Business Development Manager at DAC, explained:
“This clinic isn’t just a space—it’s a lifeline for individuals on the autism spectrum. We’ve reimagined every detail to create a safe, supportive environment that empowers patients and their families.”
A partnership for impact
Curaden MEA, known for its Curaprox brand, played a pivotal role in bringing this project to life. Paul Tamer, Managing Director of Curaden MEA, expressed pride in the initiative:
“Our goal is to make oral care accessible for everyone. Through this partnership, we’re redefining how dental care is delivered to individuals with autism.”
Angela Couto, Regional Education Manager at Curaden MEA, highlighted the educational benefits:
“We’ve created a space to not only provide care but also teach individuals essential oral hygiene practices that foster lifelong habits.”
