ISLAMABAD: The interim Federal Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, announced today that 'World AIDS Day' will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on December 1. He made this announcement during a preparatory meeting attended by representatives from various organizations, including the Common Management Unit, APLHIV, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, and WHO.
Dr. Nadeem highlighted the importance of addressing the factors contributing to HIV outbreaks, such as unsafe injection practices, unprotected sexual activity, and the sharing of contaminated needles. He emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts in education, prevention, and healthcare interventions to combat HIV effectively.
"We are committed to preventing another outbreak of HIV like the one in Larkana, Ratodero (Sindh) in 2019," stated Dr. Nadeem. He added that the government's dedication would ensure that people of all ages, genders, and population groups have equal access to life-saving HIV prevention and treatment services, grounded in the latest scientific advancements.
Dr. Nadeem also stressed the significance of World AIDS Day as a moment to show support and solidarity for individuals living with HIV. He encouraged providing information on available resources, support groups, and advocating for the rights and well-being of people with HIV.
The announcement underscores the government's commitment to combating HIV and ensuring the health and well-being of its citizens. World AIDS Day will serve as an important platform to raise awareness, promote prevention, and support those affected by HIV/AIDS in Pakistan.
