LAHORE: A two-day workshop on ‘Exodontia’ was recently organized by the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) as part of its 16th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD).
Prof Arshad Mahmood Malik, Dean of HBS Dental College in Islamabad, conducted the workshop, providing a comprehensive overview of tooth extraction techniques to the participants.
The workshop’s first day featured a historical perspective on Exodontia, followed by a detailed discussion on tooth anatomy.
Prof Malik highlighted key topics such as root curvature, angulation, and the various components of pre-surgical assessments, including patient history, systemic review, physical and extra-oral examinations, as well as radiographic and laboratory evaluations, besides demonstrating the method for measuring furcation depth.
Day two focused on hands-on practice, addressing common complications in tooth extraction. Prof Malik demonstrated the use of various dental instruments, including elevators and forceps, and provided guidance on the use of Coupland elevators, Cryer’s elevator, and angular elevators. Participants were given the opportunity to perform extractions on patients, with Prof Malik offering solutions to challenges they encountered during the procedures.
The interactive workshop concluded with positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the practical training and expert guidance.
