Dow Int’l Dental College held a poster competition on Oral pathology

Karachi: Dow International Dental College (DIDC) held its first poster competition on Oral Pathology recently. Dr. Azmina Hussain – Associate Professor, Head of the Oral Pathology Department and a PhD Scholar in Public Health, conducted the event, while the participants included the BDS students from Second and Third Professional along with many faculty members.
The founding Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences – Professor Masood Hameed Khan, was the chief guest on the occasion. While the panel of judges included senior practitioners like; Dr Kashif Ikram – Principal, Baqai Dental College, Dr Kashif Shafique – Vice Dean, School of Public Health- DUHS and Dr. Daud Mirza - Assistant Professor, Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC).
The Vice Chancellor of DUHS took a round of the Poster Competition Hall, followed by a Formal Session, where the Vice Principal DIDC gave the welcome address. The Head of Oral Pathology Department presented the Programme objectives. The judgment criteria were explained and results were announced by the judges’ panel.At the end of the competition, the Chief Guest – Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed addressed the participants and distributed the Certificates and Shields.
The rationale behind this educational eventwas to promote the scientific knowledge, artistic talent and academic brilliance of students. Such research endeavors and Poster Competitions are ideal opportunities for students to apply their knowledge, share the results of their hard work and present their knowledge to viewers.
The presentations covered important subjects like; epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, histo-pathological slides, radiographic appearances, etc. A culture of research is provides major competitive advantages to meet the future challenges is health care. The speakers highlighted that; throughout history when Muslims ruled till they were researching, the moment we gave up exploration of nature, we have been lagging behind the western developed nations.
The Judgment of this competition was based on quality, completeness, teamwork, impact of the work, as well as on the visual clarity of the posters along with the presentation skills of the students. The competition was very close, making the decision difficult, so the second prize was shared by second and third year students. The First prize was won by developmental disorder of teeth presented by the second year students. The Third prize winners were the third year students.
