Pioneering dental exam FCPS TOACS held at SIOHS

KARACHI: The Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS), affiliated with Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in the field of dental education. Recently, the Department of Operative Dentistry at SIOHS successfully hosted the Task-Oriented Assessment of Clinical Skills (TOACS) for the Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) exam in Operative Dentistry and Endodontics for the first time at its premises. This event marked a significant advancement in practical assessments for fellowship training in Pakistan.
The structured TOACS format emphasized the candidates' hands-on clinical skills, ensuring the practical demonstration of expertise in operative dentistry and endodontic procedures. A total of 37 candidates participated in this rigorous assessment, showcasing their proficiency in specialized dental practices.
The event was organized by the Department of Operative Dentistry in collaboration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP). The initiative was endorsed and approved by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of JSMU, Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon, as part of his vision to establish JSMU as a center of excellence in dental education and training.
The Head of the Department of Operative Dentistry, Prof. Syed Yawar Ali Abidi, spearheaded the exam's successful execution as Deputy Convener. He was supported by a dedicated faculty team, including Dr. Maham Lone, Dr. Samira Adnan, Dr. Isma Sajjad, Dr. Jamshed Ahmed, and Dr. Junaid Hassan. The event was also overseen by Dr. Badar, the Convener of the exam, and involved 20 eminent examiners from leading dental institutions across Pakistan.
The visiting examiners commended the state-of-the-art facilities and the high standards of organization at the SIOHS examination center. The meticulous planning and seamless execution of the exam underscored the institution’s commitment to enhancing postgraduate dental training.
“This event sets a new standard for future assessments, ensuring that our specialists possess the skills and knowledge to address modern clinical challenges effectively,” remarked a senior faculty member.
The successful conduction of this pioneering FCPS TOACS exam reflects SIOHS's dedication to advancing specialty training and enhancing assessment methodologies in Pakistan.
