The department of Community Dentistry, Ziauddin College of Dentistry ZU, visited Pakistan Public School, with students of 2nd year BDS, as a part of their planned dental outreach activity.
The trip was supervised by Dr. Sidra Mohiuddin (Assistant Professor & Head of Department) with her trained team; Dr. Atiya Karim (Senior Lecturer), Dr. Abeeha Batool and Dr. Khizra Rehman (Lecturers).
During the visit, oral health screening was performed by the students under the supervision of their seniors. In addition to oral examination, student’s BMI was also recorded to analyze their nutritional status, along with Dental problems and its impact.
After the completion of screening, brushing techniques were demonstrated by trained dental students, using typodonts and dental casts.
This exercise was a practical application of principles of health promotion with an intention to boost confidence among dental undergraduates; and enabling them to adopt a preventive approach for dealing with dental morbidities of the community.
The session was concluded, and Colgate hampers were distributed amongst the school children, in order to encourage them to practice dental health care.
