PhD Scholars win global accolades for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – It was recently announced by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) that more than 13,350 Pakistani scholars have been successful in completing their PhD, Dental News learnt from official sources.

According to media reports and the statistics released by HEC; 3,925 students have completed their PhD degrees at foreign institutions and 8,734 at local universities.

Moreover, 611 Pakistani scholars completed their post-doctorate research work from abroad whereas around 80 students have achieved their respective educational degrees in students exchanged programmes – a flagship project by HEC enables students to spend half of their credit hours in any foreign institute.

It was also learnt that as many as 20,000 Pakistani scholars are still busy in PhD research work around the world including Australia, UK, US, Germany, Korea, Japan and European countries.

It is also pertinent to mention here that recently, National Assembly of Pakistan was informed that record Rs 29 billion have been allocated to HEC for promotion of research and development.

Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Balighur Rehman informed the House that the amount will be distributed by HEC among all the public sector universities of the country. He said that HEC has been directed to focus on the applied research to meet the local needs of the country. He said that efforts are underway to strengthen linkages between the research organizations and industries to achieve the desired targets.

He said since now more than 10,000 PhDs have been produced in the country while above 20,000 thousand PhD scholars are enrolled in different universities of the country.
