Karachi- A group of dentists came together to organize dental camps at local foundation school, Kiran foundation DCTO campus in Lyari Town. The dental camp aimed to highlight the importance of dental care and hygiene among the students. The team consisted of Dr Ibrahim, 12 local dentists and 3 managers.

The Dental camps were part of initiative, SmileBright Oral Health Foundation. It is a dental health care organization founded by Dr Ibrahim. The Foundation run camps in schools across Karachi in which they conduct checkups and treat underprivileged students at no cost. The organization was usually funded by member dentists.

The camp were equipped with tongue depressors, gloves, dental models, forms and activity booklets. The school administration provided the dental team with separate workstations. The students then entered the room and were examined by dentists.

Our team funds the entire cost of buying the toothbrushes and toothpaste and any medical equipment. Our belief is that as educated citizens of this country, we have a responsibility towards our community and by playing our small part we hope we can make a significant change for the betterment of our people, says Ibrahim

“We began by conducting basic checkups, showing them how to brush their teeth with the dental model and then giving them toothbrushes, toothpaste and activity books for the younger students. We also filled out each student’s patient evaluation form and compiled a list of the students who needed further major dental treatment which I handed over to the dean at the end of our camp. In total, we conducted checkups on 275 students,” Ibrahim said.

Following the checkups, a 10 minute presentation was given on the importance of oral health and hygiene. At this point, all students were examined. The Principle of the School thanked the team and appreciated their efforts.
