KARACHI: In light of the upcoming occasion of Eid al-Adha, Professor Dr. Zaman Sheikh advises citizens to exercise caution while consuming sacrificial meat, as excessive intake in hot weather can lead to indigestion and stomach discomfort.

For individuals in good health, a daily meat consumption of 250 grams is considered appropriate. However, those with cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease should limit their intake to 125 grams.

According to Prof. Dr. Zaman Sheikh, certain parts of the animal, such as the kidneys, brain, and legs, have high cholesterol content. Therefore, individuals with kidney disease, heart conditions, and diabetes should avoid consuming these parts. Additionally, when preparing barbecued meat, it is crucial to ensure thorough cooking, as BBQ meat is often undercooked and may contain animal blood, which can pose health risks.

Prof. Zaman Sheikh advises against consuming meat throughout the entire day on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, emphasizing the potential harm of continuous meat consumption in hot weather. Combining meat with vegetables, salad, and yogurt can be beneficial. Individuals with digestive disorders should refrain from consuming meat, as it tends to be high in cholesterol—particularly in the meat of cows, calves, and camels. Goat meat, on the other hand, contains less cholesterol and is a better choice for patients with heart disease and diabetes, who should also avoid consuming fatty portions of meat.

Highlighting the nutritional benefits of meat, Prof. Zaman Sheikh emphasizes that it is a rich source of proteins, iron, zinc, and vitamins, which contribute to increased blood production. He suggests a balanced diet during Eid al-Adha for optimal health. Spicy meats can cause acidity in the stomach, and consumption of cold drinks alongside meat can also lead to acidity. Individuals with kidney problems are advised to avoid meat consumption altogether, and spicy or chili foods can potentially cause health issues.
