QUETTA - The newly established Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of Bolan Medical Complex Hospital (BMCH) Quetta was inaugurated recently, by the Provincial Health Minister Mir Rehmat Saleh Baloch.
Previously, the only Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery unit of Sandman Provincial Hospital was providing services to the bulk of patients arriving from the whole province and war-affected areas of Afghanistan. The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery ward of Bolan Medical Complex Hospital, Quetta, was established so as to cater the patients’ needs. Professor Dr Syed Abdul Rauf Shah (head of the department) put his great efforts to convince the higher-ups regarding the needs of the community and in turn received a very positive response from Chief Minister Balochistan, Health Minister Balochistan and Medical Superintendent of Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta. Initially, all basic requirements like OPDs, 12-bedded renovated rooms, Operation Theater and sufficient manpower have been provided to the newly established unit. The patient admission and surgeries were started soon afterwards.
Prof Dr Syed Abdul Rauf Shah has a previous working experience as consultant at JPMC Karachi and also has served as professor & HoD Dental/ Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zaid Federal Hospital Quetta, is leading the team to cater to the heavy patients load at the newly established unit. His team includes Associate Professor Dr Asma Kakar, Assistant Professor Dr Habib-ur-Rehman and 10 Dental Surgeons.
The efforts by the government authorities to improve oral health facilities for the patients of the deprived province have been welcomed by the society at large. -PR
