KARACHI: Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry recently marked the second Annual Research Day, organized by the Student Scientific Committee, under the guidance of Principal Prof Dr Navid Rashid Qureshi to promote research culture among students.

Dr Amna Rehman, the chairperson and Dr Samreen Malik, secretary, led the event that underscored the institution's commitment to advancing scholarly pursuits.

Under the guidance of Dr Araib Tahir, the first-year students made significant contributions to the Annual Research Day, gaining exposure to diverse research methodologies. Their involvement not only reflected a keen interest in grasping the fundamentals of research strategies but also showcased dedication to intellectual growth and a passion for inquiry.

The event saw the participation of 25 research groups from the first year, comprising 75 students, alongside 12 groups from the third year and 17 comprehensive studies from the final year.

Over 300 students presented 52 research posters under the supervision of 20 faculty members during the event.

Prof Farhat Jafri from KMDC, a distinguished healthcare entrepreneur, physician leader, coach, and researcher, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Notable figures such as Prof. Dr. Arshad Hasan (DDC), Dr. Samira Adnan (JSMU), Prof. Dr. Mehwish Kashif (KMDC), Dr. Khurram Pervez (DIKHIOS), Dr. Atif Ali Hashmi (LNH), and Prof. Dr. Farah Naz (DIDC) were invited as jury members, underscoring the significance of the event.

Internal jury members, including Prof. Dr. Uzma Zareef, Dr. Anjum Fahad, Dr. Munawarul Haq, Dr. Shirjeel Hussain, Prof. Dr. Naheed Najmi, Dr. Yabinda Sahrish, Prof. Dr. Attiya Sheikh, Prof. Dr. Tahera Ayub, Dr. Sadaf Mashood, Dr. Zareen Naz, Prof. Dr. Saad Usmani, Prof. Dr. Athar Khan, and Dr. Asad Farooq, lent their expertise to the event.

The event concluded with the recognition of nine outstanding posters, with cash prizes up to Rs 20,000 awarded by the college principal and chief guest.

All participants received certificates of appreciation. The occasion served as a dynamic and impactful platform for both students and faculty, aligning with the objective of advancing knowledge acquisition and acknowledging the exceptional efforts of aspiring researchers in the country.
