Taxila: Dental college HITEC-IMS organised a workshop on ‘Cleft Babies: from Birth to Lip Repair’. This was a preconference workshop of the 13th International PCOMS conference. The main theme of the workshop was management of cleft patients, after birth with Naso-alveolar molding and Lip repair.
The workshop was structured into two components. The first component was didactic, comprising of lectures that were designed to cover all the aspects necessary for the initial management of cleft babies. This was followed by case discussions.
The second component was of hands-on practice including Orthodontic and Oral & Maxillofacial surgical skill. Orthodontic activity comprised of face taping and fabrication and activation of Naso-alveolar molding plate. Surgical hands-on session included incision marking on line diagram on clinical photographs, flap designing and cleft repair on specially imported silicone models.
The workshop was attended enthusiastically by 33 participants from all over Pakistan who at the end of session gave a prolific feedback.
The workshop was facilitated by faculty from Dental College Hitec-ims (Prof Dr Irfan Shah, Dr Waheed Ullah Khan, Dr Sana) and invited guest speakers were Prof Dr Rozina, Prof Brig(R) Dr Ehtisham, Brig Nazir Khan and Prof Brig(R) Gulzar Bukhari.
The Dental college Hitec-ims aims to conduct further workshops and practices to enable young consultants and PG residents to impart their critical care to the underprivileged cleft patients and devise a team approach towards alleviation of sufferings of these cleft patients.
