KARACHI: Imran Yaqoob Minhas, Cheif of Karachi Police, has stopped the police from arresting passers-by for not being vaccinated, having a COVID certificate on random checking.
Earlier, Karachi police arrested over 30 people failing to prove their Covid-19 vaccination, which created a strong reaction from the people and political parties.
So, the city police chief detained to arrest passers-by and directed the police to monitor vaccination cards at restaurants, marriage halls and other places where social gatherings took place and register FIRs against the owners violating COVID-19 SOPs.
The police claimed that they took this initiative after an order by the home department and doubts by Mumtaz Ali Shah, Chief Secretary, Sindh, for not taking action against unvaccinated persons.
Shazia Jahan, spokesperson, Karachi police, said that the city police chief had directed the police to follow guidelines issued by the provincial government of checking vaccination certificates at crowded establishments like restaurants, dining places, marriage halls etc.
