ISLAMABAD: A countrywide crackdown will be launched on illegal and substandard drugs jointly by the National Task Force (NTF) and provincial health departments.
As per sources, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has assigned the task of launching the crackdown on illegal and substandard medicines to the National Task Force, which has completed its homework in this regard.
In this connection, instructions have been issued to provincial offices of DRAP, say the sources, adding that the NTF will conduct raids across the country based on classified information.
They say that ahead of launching the crackdown, NTF will carry out surveillance of the medicine markets of major cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Quetta and Peshawar, where raids are likely to be conducted.
To successfully carry out this exercise, cooperation between will be increased between the federal and provincial medicine inspectorates and those found involved in this illegal activity be booked under the Drape Act.
The DRAP CEO will be provide a daily report about countrywide crackdown by the NTF.
