Man travels 100 miles to visit dentist

WALES: A 73-year-old man in Wales travels 100 miles to visit his dentist, in Telford Shropshire. This is due to a lack of dental practices taking NHS dentists.

Dafydd Williams lives in Newtown, Powys, but his dentist practices in Telford, Shropshire.
Powys, a county in Wales, is was one of the areas of the state that does not have any dentists taking new NHS patients.

The Welsh government said that as a result of the introduction of new reforms, 112,000 new appointments shall be available for NHS patients in 2023. However, the BDA has pronounced these claims as false.

"I'm angry to be honest that we have to travel so many miles to see a dentist," said Mr Williams.

"We go twice a year for a check-up, but of course, if we need to have any treatment and they say we have to go back in 10 days or a fortnight, that's another day gone."
