Karachi: Dental Health Services (DHS) is a private organization with an objective of spreading awareness regarding Oral Hygiene, particularly among school going children, with special reference to consumption of Betal nut and Gutkha chewing habit.
DHS recently organized a Dental Camp, at Dr. A Q Khan School System, Shadman Campus, Karachi, under the guidance of Dr. Daud Mirza, Associate Professor and Founder Chairman of Dental Health Services. Other team members included Dr. Raza, Dr. Luqman, Dr. Fatima and Mr. Saqib, as their assistant.
Dr. Daud Mirza and Dr. Raza carried out a comprehensive dental check-up of all the students. Before proceeding with the dental examination, an interactive session with students was conducted in order to educate them about common dental ailments, especially tooth decay and gum diseases. Dr.Daud emphasized on proper brushing techniques, eating healthy and balanced diet and recommended annual dental check -ups. Furthermore, he stressed upon avoiding junk food and fizzy drinks that result in causing harmful effects on the oral cavity.
During the oral examination of students, tooth decay, staining and tartar deposits were commonly reported. Interestingly, other oral mucosal findings such as bifid tongue, ankyloglossia, geographic, fissured tongue and angular cheilitis were also seen in few students.
