KARACHI: In connection with the World Oral Health Day, Baqai Dental College (BDC), Department of Community Dentistry, organised a series of awareness lectures, walks and free dental camps at its primary health care centres for the schoolchildren from 13th -17th March, 2023.
These camps were held at FWC Lyari on 13th March, at Baqai Medical Complex, Khushal Nagar, Gharo, on 14th March, Fehmi Health Care Centre on 15th March, Baqai Medical Complex, Khuda ki Basti on 16th March and at Salimullah Fehmi Primary Memorial School Unit 1 on 17th March.
At the FWC Lyari, Dr Mohsin Abbas highlighted the importance of oral health day at an awareness session for the schoolchildren, focused on oral diseases, their etiology and preventive strategies. Later on, Dr Wajiha Anzar discussed the impact of oral health on quality of life and Dr Samreen demonstrated the proper brushing technique to the children.
At the Baqai Medical Complex, Khushal Nagar, Gharo, the awareness session and a free dental camp was conducted by Dr Farhan Sufi and Dr Mehwish Bano, whereas Dr Shahdab Rizvi took part in the session at the Fehmi Health Care Centre, Dr Asif Rasool at the Baqai Medical Complex, Khuda ki basti and Dr Wajiha Anzar conducted the awareness session at the Salimullah Fehmi Primary Memorial School.
Walks were also held at these centres to raise awareness about oral health in which schoolchildren, staff and faculty of the BDC’s Department of Community Dentistry participated enthusiastically.
Before the commencement of the awareness walk at the Salimullah Fehmi Primary Memorial School, Head of the Department Prof Dr Asghar Ali Shigri appreciated the participants for sparing their time for this noble cause.
Later on, the BDC principal highlighted the importance of oral health in our daily lives.
In the end, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kashif Ikram encouraged the students to play an active role as advocates of oral health.
During the walk that began from Nishan-e-Manzil and concluded at the Super Highway gate, the students were carrying placards inscribed with various messages in accordance with World Oral Health Day.
BDC community dentistry faculty members, including Prof Dr Asghar Ali Shigri, Dr Mehwish Bano, Dr Samreen Mazhar, Dr Raza Abbas and Dr Wajiha Anzar were lauded by the administration for organising the successful event.
