KARACHI: Free dental care camps were set up at various health facilities during Oral Health Week marked in connection with the World Oral Health Day under the aegis of the Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) to promote healthy oral hygiene practices and regular dental check-ups and treatment among the public.
During the week-long drive, the free camps were set up in the OPDs of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, National Institute of Child Health, Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences, Darul Sukoon and Old Age Homes, where hundreds of patients were examined and provided with toothbrushes, toothpastes and written materials regarding oral health, besides recommendations regarding check-ups at the university OPD.
On the conclusion of the activity, JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon said overall health was directly related to good oral health, warning people, especially the youth, against using Paan, Gutka, Chhalia, cigarettes and other harmful items.
He lauded the SIOHS team’s initiative to raise awareness among the public about oral health and related diseases.
The VC also visited a poster exhibition held by second-year students, supervised and guided by Dr Hina Shah and Dr Sunbal.
Dr Mahmood Shah, Dr Syed Jawad Ali Shah and Dr Sadiq Ali Shah, Deputy Director, Health Services were guest speakers at the concluding ceremony that was also addressed by Registrar Dr Azam Khan and Principal Professor Zubair Abbasi.
Earlier, a free dental camp was inaugurated at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center by JPMC Dental OPD head Dr Jahan Alam, while SIOHS Principal Prof Zubair Abbasi and Deputy Registrar Dr Surriyya Sarwat opened the camp at the National Institute of Child Health, Director Dr Nasir Saddal, at Obstetrics and Gynecology Ward of JPMC by Dr Nighat Shah and Mrs Anisa Amjad, at Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences by Registrar Dr Azam Khan.
