KARACHI: The Department of Paediatric Dentistry at Baqai Dental College, Baqai Medical University (BMU), recently held its inaugural workshop on paediatric dentistry, titled “A New Era in Pulp Therapy: Empowering Primary Molar Treatment with Kiddo Rotary File” for final-year BDS students and dental house officers, highlighting advancements in pediatric dental care.
BDC Vice Dean Dr. Shakila Nazir delivered the opening address, followed by a lecture on pulp pathology in primary molars by Dr. Saleha Shah, Assistant Professor and Head of Paediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Danish Shahnawaz, Assistant Professor and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics, delivered a detailed lecture on modern pulp therapy techniques, emphasising advancements in treating primary molars.
A special session on gingivitis and hypersensitivity was conducted by Mr. Fahim Bhatti from Haleon GSK, the workshop's sponsor.
The event's highlight was a hands-on demonstration by Dr. Danish Shahnawaz, regarding procedures such as indirect and direct pulp capping, pulpotomy, and pulpectomy in primary molars.
The participants also observed a live video demonstration of a pulpectomy procedure, which focused on the innovative Kiddo Rotary File System. This practical session provided a comprehensive understanding of modern treatment approaches and techniques.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of pulpal pathology and equip them with the skills needed for vital and non-vital pulp therapy. Attendees gained hands-on experience with Kiddo Rotary Files, enabling them to perform complex dental procedures with confidence.
A shield distribution ceremony followed, featuring speeches by the chief guest, BDC Dean Prof Dr. Asaad Javaid, and Principal Prof Dr. Muhammad Farhan Khan.
The workshop was sponsored by Haleon GSK, providing an informative lecture, a kiosk for Bone Mineral Density checks and Plaque Index evaluations, souvenir bags, and lunch for participants.
The Department of Paediatric Dentistry also distributed booklets with guidelines on pulp therapy from the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and UK National Clinical Guidelines.
Faculty members from the Departments of Paediatric Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, and Endodontics facilitated the hands-on session.
The event also received support from BMU’s auxiliary and housekeeping staff, the Department of Communication for marketing, and the Department of Medical Education for online registration and CDE accreditation certificates.
The Department of Administration ensured seamless logistical arrangements, contributing to the workshop's success.
The Department of Paediatric Dentistry thanked the BMU, Baqai Dental College, and all stakeholders for their contributions.
