Karachi: The medical and dental graduates and current house officers of the Jinnah Medical and Dental College have been issued a termination letter from the university, as retaliation to their protest regarding no pay.
According to sources, medical graduates had taken to the streets to express discontentment against the university administration. Jinnah Medical and Dental College had decided to pay their house officers a sum of twenty-two thousand rupees as a stipend per month.
For dental house officers, the administration had decided on a stipend of fourteen thousand rupees. This decision has been made regardless of the Supreme Court’s orders to allow both medical and dental graduates a stipend of at least 45 thousand rupees.
After multiple discussions and meetings between the university administration and the students went in vain, the students were left with no option but to refuse to work and protest against the unjust monetary compensation.
The students have also been raising their voices against the lack of accountability on behalf of the university administration. The MBBS graduates had begun their house job training on the 1st of June 2022, the students took to the streets on the 15th of August, after they complained that even though they were assigned a lower stipend than other university colleges, they had not received any payments or salary slips since the past three months.
The students made yet another attempt to bring their issue to light, by complaining to the Pakistan Medical Commission, the decision on this issue is still pending.
In retaliation to all the efforts of the students to hold JMDC accountable, the university has issued a termination notice to all the students that were absent from work premises during the time of the protest.
The medical and dental graduates of JMDC are distressed by the obstinate reaction by the university and are left helpless in this situation of adversity.
