ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan Medical Commission has recently approved the new curriculum for MDCAT 2022.

According to the information provided, the PMDC's 12th meeting, which was presided over by its President, Dr Arshad Taqi, approved the weightage of subjects with some minor modifications based on the recommendations of the National Medical and Dental Academic Board with regard to the MDCAT curriculum.

The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) made some minor changes to the weighting of subjects and took the topic of gout out of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) curriculum for 2022.

The board's recommendations are based on inputs from the provinces' higher secondary boards while certifying that the MDCAT curriculum is in conformity with the National Curriculum 2006 and provincial curricula and does not exceed the syllabus or appear to hold anything that is not on the syllabus.

Change in subject questions' weightage

The PMC made a policy decision that it shared on its Twitter handle, and as a result, the weightage of questions in the subjects of the MDCAT curriculum has been slightly modified: the weightage of questions in biology has increased from 32 per cent to 34 per cent, the weightage of questions in physics and chemistry has increased from 26.5 per cent to 27 per cent, the weightage of questions in English has decreased from 10 per cent to 9 per cent, and the weightage of questions involving logical reasoning has decreased from 5 per cent to 3 per cent. The examination will include 210 questions, all of which will be based on the content presented above.

Passing per cent lowers for the dental programme

The meeting also authorised lowering the minimum MDCAT score required to pass the dental programme from 65 per cent to 55 per cent, which will take effect for the next round of admissions to dental colleges across the nation.
