ISLAMABAD: In a significant development for aspiring medical and dental students, the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has revised its criteria for admissions to foreign undergraduate medical and dental institutions. The new requirements, effective from the 2024-2025 academic session, aim to standardize admission standards and ensure compliance with the PM&DC Act, 2022.
Under the updated regulations, students planning to pursue medical or dental education abroad must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Academic qualifications:
Students must have achieved at least 60% marks in their FSC (Pre-Medical) or an equivalent qualification in Pakistan.
Alternatively, candidates can qualify by securing a minimum score of 550 in each subject on the SAT or SAT-II exams. For those opting for international exams like MCAT or UCAT, a 50% score in Biology, Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Physics is mandatory.
MDCAT requirement:
A minimum of 50% marks in the MDCAT examination conducted in Pakistan is compulsory.
PM&DC registration:
Students must register with PM&DC before applying to foreign institutions.
Foreign institutions validity:
PM&DC has provided a list of recognized foreign institutions on its official website. This list is valid exclusively for admissions in the 2024-2025 session. Beyond this period, it will no longer serve as a reference for recognized institutions.
Provisional and national registration:
All students pursuing foreign education must complete mandatory online registration with PM&DC to obtain Provisional Registration. Additionally, they will need to appear for the National Registration Examination upon their return to Pakistan.
