LAHORE: The Dental College of University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD), University of Lahore (UOL) initiated “online” dental consultation during the lockdown period.
The online dental consultation has been easily available to patients requiring guidance for the management of dental emergencies. From simple toothache to fillings, restorations, implants and surgical removal, all the necessary information is imparted to the patients free of cost by a dental health professional.
The University Dental Hospital, UOL has also established a Tele-Dentistry department to facilitate the patients remotely for dental consultations and treatment planning to play a critical role in maintaining communications through interactive videos, audios or other electronic media for diagnosis, consultation, treatment and transfer of dental information to enhance care and education delivery.
Several dental professionals have embraced Tele Dentistry as a viable means of delivering oral care. The main rationale for the development of the Tele-Dentistry centre by the administration and faculty of Community Dentistry, UCMD, was the desire to provide dental health services to persons whose access to dental health care has been restricted during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic and to reduce the health care burden on hospitals. It has also been reducing the risk of viral transmission and compliance with social distancing measures.
