Abottabad: A workshop on objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), conducted at the Abottabad International Medical Institution by the Department of Medical Education, took place on the 4th and 5th August 2022, for the faculty members to improve their application of a structured OSCE for students at the university.
The Workshop was facilitated by Dr Noaman Siddiqui, Director, Department of Medical Education, and Dr Saadia Rehman, Deputy Director, Department of Medical Education. Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof. Muhammad Akbar, Principal AIMC said these series of workshops are key for the development of our faculty.
Pre-test comprising of 15 MCQs was held that was followed by presentation, group discussion, group tasks and mock OSPE/OSCE. The Workshop covered various aspects of OSPE/OSCE and following learning outcomes were covered:
Explain rationale for use of OSPE/OSCE
Develop well-constructed OSPE/OSCE
Make marking scheme for OSPE/OSCE
Organize OSPE/OSCE stations following prescribed rules
All the participants were divided into two groups and were required to make and conduct OSPE/OSCE consisting of ten stations each. Volunteer students from final year BDS participated in the activity. The mock OSPE/OSCE was then followed by critique and feedback by the facilitators as well as from the participating students. At the conclusion of the Workshop, both verbal and written feedback was obtained from all the participants. In the end the Principal AIMC Prof Dr Muhammad Akbar awarded ‘Certificates of Attendance’ to all the participants.
