RAWALPINDI: The Margalla Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) recently organized a dynamic six-day sports week aimed at nurturing teamwork, sportsmanship, and communication skills among students of BDS, DPT, and Pharm-D courses, featuring sports, fun and artistic activities.
The inauguration ceremony, held at DHA Phase 2, welcomed Mr. Syed Nadeem Sajid, a former national player and international coach, with over 16 years of coaching experience with the national team and senior photojournalist at Daily Jang Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan, as the chief guests. The ceremony commenced recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat, followed by the lighting of the torch and ribbon-cutting event by the chief guests.
Prof. Dr. Sohail Ahmad, Dean MCP, administered the oath to all participants, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Shakir Khan, Vice Principal Margalla College of Dentistry (MCD), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aadil Umer, Principal ICP, and other senior faculty members.
Throughout the week, various events such as a fun and food festival, poster competition themed "Expressive Art Therapy," and a photography competition titled "Beauty Through My Lens" were held. The contests were adjudged by faculty members, including Dr. Sohail, Dr. Adil, Brig. Dr. Abdul Rehman, Dr. Sidra, Dr. Anina, Dr. Fatima Amjad, Mr. Huzaifa, and Ms. Madiha. Chairman MIHS, Dr. Abdul Qadir, who also distributed souvenirs among the winners.
The sports events, spanning three days, featured cricket, football, throw ball, badminton, athletics, and table tennis, alongside arm wrestling, tug of war, and chess, captivating both students and faculty alike.
Qiraat and Naat competitions were judged by Mrs. Abdul Qadir, HOD Anatomy Department Prof. Dr. Farheen Masood, Qari Hafiz Muhammad Hafeez, and Madam Shahnaz Jamal.
Debate competitions in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Bait-Bazi, and Tahtul-Lafz were organized by the debate society, featuring Mr. Raja Abdul Qayyum, Mr. Khawer Ejaz, and Ms. Fatima Usman.
The grand finale and prize distribution ceremony took place at Ayub Sports Complex, Rawalpindi, attended by Mr. Mutahir Sohail, Chaudhary Muhammad Asim, S. Raza Rafique Sarhadi, Mr. Syed Nadeem Sajid, and Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan.
MIHS Sports Week not only celebrated the institute's legacy but also underscored its commitment to holistic student development through physical and mental wellness activities.
The event's success was attributed to Prof. Dr. Shakir Khan, Prof. Dr. Sohail, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aadil, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nauman, MIHS’s faculty, staff, and students.
