ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken a significant step by initiating a comprehensive investigation into the income tax records of various professionals, including doctors, industrialists, and lawyers across the country. According to official sources, this move is aimed at expanding the tax base and ensuring that high-income individuals contribute their fair share.
The investigation involves the meticulous collection of data from members of influential associations and organizations, encompassing a wide range of professions. Identity card numbers and mobile numbers of these members are being carefully recorded to maintain accuracy. To bolster this effort, the FBR will tap into resources such as the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
This decision comes as negotiations continue between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical team and the Task Force on tax and FBR reforms. Technical experts from the IMF have been collaborating closely with FBR tax officials, engaging in extensive discussions and data analysis, primarily drawing from the FBR subsidiary, PRAL.
The FBR's commitment to strengthening the tax net and ensuring tax compliance among high-earning individuals remains at the forefront of its agenda. This investigation underscores the government's determination to uphold fiscal responsibility and promote equitable taxation practices.
