KARACHI: The second day of the 7th Dental Expo 2024, organized by the Dental Trade and Manufacturers Association (DTMA) at the Expo Center Karachi, continued to draw significant attention with its impressive lineup of exhibitors, sessions, and industry discussions. The event, which is Pakistan’s largest dental trade exhibition, has become a focal point for dental professionals, manufacturers, and policymakers.
Calls for policy reforms to boost the dental industry
During discussions with Dental News, Mr. Ashraf Ghauri, President DTMA, Mr. Liaquat Ali Humayun, Petron-in-Chief DTMA and other office bearers emphasized the urgent need for the government to rationalize taxes and duties on the dental manufacturing sector. They stressed that with better government facilitation, the industry has immense potential to generate substantial foreign exchange reserves through exports.
“Currently, 90% of raw materials for dental manufacturing are imported from China, the USA, and Europe. If we streamline taxation policies and provide adequate support to local manufacturers, we can position Pakistan as a competitive exporter in the global dental industry,” said Mr. Ashraf Ghauri.
The appeal reflects the association’s commitment to promoting local manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports, a goal that could significantly boost Pakistan’s economy.
