Pink Eye outbreak: Over 10,000 new cases emerge in Punjab in 24 hours

LAHORE: The Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Department is grappling with a significant upsurge in pink eye infections, with a staggering 10,269 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

A spokesperson for the department revealed that a total of 394,795 cases of eye infections have been reported, spanning across 36 districts in Punjab.

Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is a highly contagious eye infection that is typically self-limiting, resolving on its own within 8 to 10 days. However, the department has issued recommendations to mitigate the risk of infection and aid in a speedy recovery.

To minimize the risk of contracting or spreading the infection, individuals are strongly advised to maintain proper eye hygiene, which includes regular washing of the eyes with clean water, protecting the eyes from intense sunlight, and shielding them from dust and dirt.

The health department is closely monitoring the situation and taking measures to contain the outbreak while providing necessary guidance to the affected individuals.
