ABBOTTABAD: Abbottabad International Dental Hospital (AIDH) marked International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) recently, with a series of impactful initiatives aimed at promoting infection control awareness within the hospital community and beyond. Spearheaded by the Infection Control Cell, the event brought together students, faculty, staff, patients, and dignitaries to underscore the significance of infection prevention in healthcare.
Under the leadership of Principal Prof. Samia Shad, Vice Principals Prof. Adil Shahnawaz and Dr. Anhum Jadoon, and Infection Control Officer Dr. Taimoor Zahid, the week-long program emphasized the hospital's unwavering commitment to fostering a safer healthcare environment. The activities were designed to educate, engage, and empower participants on key infection control practices while celebrating the hospital's proactive measures in ensuring patient and healthcare worker safety.
The event featured expert-led sessions, interactive demonstrations, and competitions to encourage active participation. Key topics included hand hygiene, healthcare worker safety, patient education, public health preparedness, and the continuum of care in preventing infections. A highlight of the program was a vaccination awareness campaign, reinforcing the message that “Prevention is better than cure” and advocating for widespread immunization among healthcare professionals and the public.
With initiatives such as cleanliness drives, poster presentations, and social media competitions, AIDH successfully raised awareness about the critical role of infection control in safeguarding public health. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony recognizing participants' efforts and contributions to promoting infection prevention.
As healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) continue to pose significant challenges globally, AIDH's proactive approach to infection prevention serves as a model for other institutions. By prioritizing education, awareness, and engagement, the hospital has set a benchmark in enhancing healthcare quality and ensuring patient safety.
