Man Reportedly Dies From Heatstroke In Karachi; Government Health Officials Deny

KARACHI- In light of Karachi’s current heatwave, a man reportedly lost his life due to heatstroke in Khamiso Goth, area of New Karachi. While several others were brought in hospitals suffering from heat exhaustion and associated complications.


Edhi Rescue Services, confirmed the death of 26-year old resident of Khamiso, Qurban Ali s/o Akhter Ali  due to heatstroke. The body was moved to Edhi Morgue.


However, Director Health Services, Karachi Dr. Tahir Aziz Sheikh and Senior Director, Medical & Health Services, KMC, Dr. Birbal denied this news, as according to them, no such case was reported by Sindh Government and KMC run health facilities.


Dr. Birbal added that, a patient, Muhammad Faisal, resident of Liaquatabad, was admitted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital having symptoms of heatstroke but, was provided with first aid and discharged soon after. Whereas, no heatstroke patient was reported at the Heatstroke Management Centre, set up at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi.


Executive Director JPMC, Dr. Seemin Jamali also informed that a couple of patients came in, struck by heat exhaustion but, no heatstroke patient was reported within the hospital’s premises.


Earlier, Pakistan Meteorological Department issued an alert for the city, stating that hot weather is likely to prevail in Karachi, with a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius.
