Oral Health Awareness campaign for children

Oral Health Awareness campaign for children

Karachi: The BDS Student Council, Ziauddin University held an Oral Health awareness session at The Aisha Islamic Academy.

As dental students and representatives, President Noor Khan and Vice President Rabika Syed believe that it’s not only the dental community’s responsibility to manage and treat dental pathologies, but also prevent them by creating awareness amongst the community to limit the spread of all types of oral health diseases. According to research, the best age to educate individuals in order for them to build healthy lifestyles is during childhood, so that the habits can be sustained for a lifetime.

In the light of this, a campaign was conducted to educate girls from ages 3-15 on how to achieve and maintain optimal oral health, for their wellbeing. The BDS Student Council, along with students from Ziauddin College of Dentistry divided the children into small groups to ensure better learning outcomes.

They were taught the correct way to brush their teeth, along with other oral hygiene instructions, the difference their diet makes; encouraging them to consume healthy foods and drinks, the consequences of poor oral health and much more.

To ensure that the experience was beneficial for the girls, in the end, the council members engaged them in a question-answer activity, after which they were given gifts and prizes for their utmost interest and involvement in the activity.

This session would not have been possible without the generous donations from the students of Ziauddin College of Dentistry and Medicam, who sponsored toothpastes for the children.
